Final Self-Assessment

Have I, as a writer, achieved the learning objectives that were given to me at the start of the semester? I believe that I have achieved most, if not all, the learning objectives throughout my essays. Throughout my essays, I believe that I have fulfilled the following course learning objectives: Explore and analyze, in writing and reading, a variety of genres and rhetorical situations. I have mastered this objective because I now have the understanding of how to analyze key evidence and build an essay around a variety of topics, whether it be about Uber vs Taxi or the legalization of marijuana. Practice systematic application of citation conventions: I believe I have also mastered this because I now am very proficient in successfully adding bits of quotes that flow within my writing. Understand and use print and digital technologies to address a range of audiences: I have used charts and graphs to further prove my arguments. Compose texts that integrate your stance with appropriate sources using strategies such as summary, critical analysis, interpretation, synthesis, and argumentation: At first, this was hard for me because I did not know how to find the right sources but with the CCNY library database, I was able to successfully create citation works pages with appropriate sources that helped me in my writing. Develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing: With the help of my peers, I was able to get feedback on my writing, which ultimately helped improve my essays as a whole. Constructive criticism is always favored. My thoughts of writing have evolved through the semester. At first I had thought of the class to be a waste of time, but as I worked on my essays, sometimes getting a writers block, I felt the urgency to try harder and write something meaningful and creative. Before this class, I wouldn’t have even thought about writing to be exciting but my views have changed for the better in my opinion. My writing has always been strong, so when my peers reviewed my essays, they wouldn’t really find anything to criticize too much, only that I would not give much to criticize. My essays would be 2-3 paragraphs but I would barely change those paragraphs and just continue on writing. This course has been interesting and I hope for the best moving onwards when I take classes such as writing for engineering and I power through my years at college as a comp sci major.
